Newark, NJ — April 14, 2009 — Gateway Group One CEO, Kurus Elavia, will be inducted into the New Jersey Business Hall of Fame at the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA) annual gala on April 30th. Mr. Elavia began his career with what was then called Gateway Security in 1988 as a frontline security officer. Today, his stewardship of Gateway Group One has built the company into a leading provider of passenger services, customer care and security services for some of America’s largest airports, corporate facilities, public venues and industrial campuses.
“I am deeply humbled to be given this honor,” said Mr. Elavia. “This award really belongs to all of the people who make Gateway Group One such an effective and delightful place to work. It also reflects all of those who, throughout the years, gave me the opportunity to prove myself and to grow into this job.” He particularly credits Gateway founders Lou Dell’Ermo and James Dell’Ermo, and points out the uniquely American success story that this award represents.
The very first NJ Business Hall of Fame Asian American inductee of Indian descent,
Mr. Elavia arrived in the United States from his home country with $300 in his pocket. Beginning as a security officer, he worked his way to COO in 1999 and became CEO in 2006. In the process, he has helped build the corporation from an $11 million firm from when he took over the reins as an executive leader, to its present size in excess of $75 million and over 4,000 employees. “The people of this great country embraced me and really helped me to live the American Dream,” Mr. Elavia explained.
The New Jersey Business Hall of Fame benefits Junior Achievement of New Jersey, Inc. The event annually honors New Jersey’s business leaders and role models to today’s youth.
